Description

With the expansion tank being exposed to high pressures and temperatures on both the E46 318i and X5 3.0d, the plastic tank is known to crack and leak (particularly at the hose fittings). Without the correct amount of fluid in your BMW’s cooling system, your vehicle can overheat, leading to a catastrophic engine failure.

Helpful tips

We recommend that you replace your cap and coolant level sensor at the same time. It’s also a good idea to check the condition of your hoses while you're working in the area. Be sure that you have enough coolant on hand prior to starting the job.
