DESCRIPTION

Early BMW N52 engines use aluminium valve covers that are secured with one-time-use stretch bolts. These bolts are designed to elastically deform when torqued, applying an extremely precise and even clamping load across the valve cover and gasket.

Once stretched, they cannot return to their original length — which means re-using them risks uneven sealing, oil leaks, and in some cases cracked valve covers.

This complete bolt set from Febi Bilstein replaces every one of the factory stretch bolts required for an early N52 valve cover removal and refit, ensuring the gasket is clamped exactly as BMW intended.

Replacing the bolts at the same time as the gasket is the only way to ensure the repair actually lasts with proper OE-grade fasteners designed specifically for BMW’s N52 valve cover system.

2006 530i N52 engine

Exactly what I needed to refresh the old re-used bolts that were in my engine. I had to take the valve cover off to replace the valve cover gaskets and you must use new bolts torqued to 7Nm plus 90 degrees. Some muppet had broken several of the bolts which were glued in place and I had some bad oil leaks. Classy. I used a hex screw standoff from Jaycar in the hole to protect the block and cover and drilled through the middle of the old bolt head then used an impact driver and screw extractor to get them out easily.
