Description

The Vanos Solenoid Valve (SOLV) is a critical part of the variable camshaft timing in modern BMWs. A common failure point on all N52 & N54 engine models, these valves tend to degrade over time, leading to a range of issues, including erratic engine performance, warning messages, hard starting, and rough idle. Symptoms may be intermittent as the valves begin to fail, but given their importance and sensitivity, a high-quality replacement is essential. Previously, we only offered BMW Genuine valves, but these options from Pierburg provide a reliable solution at a much more reasonable price.

Helpful tips

Fault codes for these sensors are typically: 2A99 (P0017) - Crankshaft Position / Exhaust Camshaft outside of reference value range, 2A82 & 2A87 - Vanos Mechanically Jammed, 2A9A & 2A9B - Camshaft Sensor signal invalid for synchronisation, 2A98 (P0016) Camshaft to Crankshaft correlation error.

Perfect replacement for the worn out old solenoid that threw codes. Comes with new seals so no need to order extra.

BMW 335i E90 N54

As always I’m unable to find fault with clickables amazing service with purchasing and the quality of the parts they sell. Vanos solenoid fit with no problems, was oiled in the plastic so wasn’t dry when installed and started for the first time. Would definitely purchase and buy again if needed!

2012 E92 325i

Was advertised as pierburg but I got sent a continental solenoid. I guess I bought it at the time they were changing suppliers.
The solenoid did not work. I was replacing my exhaust solenoid with this one and I started the car and it didn't like it. Erratic revving without me touching the throttle and a high pitched screeching/whining noise.
Maybe I got unlucky but I would only buy genuine BMW solenoids from now on. $$$.
Website service, price and delivery was good but the product didn't work.

We’d still love the opportunity to exchange it for a new one, but we completely understand that confidence can be fragile after an experience like this.

For a long time, we also believed that Genuine was the only truly reliable option. But since the updated Continental (VDO) and Pierburg versions became available a few years ago, we’ve supplied hundreds of both without any pattern of faults or performance issues. If we weren’t confident in a product’s quality, we simply wouldn’t offer it. A failure like this is a nightmare for everyone — there’s no benefit to anyone in offering a sub-par product — and these issues are extremely rare. When something does go wrong, we’ll always stand behind it and make it right.

We also apologise for the confusion around the brand shown on the product page at the time of your order. Our preferred brand for this part is Continental (VDO), with Pierburg supplied when availability requires it. Our website should always reflect the specific product being purchased.
