In slow traffic your engine needs to maintain a constant airflow over the engine. This is where the fan clutch comes in, engaging the mechanical fan to everything within a safe working temperature. When it's cool enough, it simply disengages, reducing load on the engine. Manufactured by NRF, this fan clutch is designed as a direct replacement.
Helpful tips
The fan clutch is often an overlooked but great preventive maintenance item. Over time the fan clutch looses its strength and ability to lock the fan on at full speed causing engines to run hot and overheat. If your engine is running hotter than it should in traffic, this is a good place to start.
